Bracelets and Movies

August 1st

     Wednesday. I get up and get ready for work. I arrive, fully prepared to work in the sac, but Peter stops me. "Jamie is sick. Can you cover for her today? You will have some help," He pointed to the guy next to him. "His name is Andrew." Yeah, his name is Andrew, but everyone calls him Snow.

So I am fairly unprepared. I go and get ice and come back. I am nervous and excited. I just love working in the Java Hut. I work with Snow, and it was a really enjoyable shift. After it was over, I go back to my dorm and make bracelets for Ulises and myself. Trying to tie my bracelet to myself was a bit of a challenge, but I did it.

     For dinner shift, they send me Thor to work with me, because Jamie is still sick. So Thor and I are working, and I see Kaylah. I mention to Thor that his girl is in the room, and he starts scanning the crowd. She was behind him, walking towards him. When he sees her, he goes to her

and brings her over, and she hangs out with us for the rest of the shift. Their friend, Nick, comes over, and they all talk. So after our shift
is over, Kaylah invites me to a movie night in the lounge. I accept. So after I walk back to the dorm, I change, grab my bracelet bag (I have such

a supply of string now that I have to carry a bag with me). We watch some cheesy horror movie made back in the 50's or so. After that movie finishes, Kaylah decides we should watch I am Legend. So Nick puts that on. Andrew comes in and watches it, and then Karen comes in.

Priscilla comes, and then Ulises. Soon the whole room is full. Rachel comes in, and it just so happens that I finished making her a bracelet, so I give it to her. After the movie is over, I give Ulises his bracelet. (It turns out that the blue and green I picked out were too dark to read, so I

made a green and tan bracelet.) Karen leaves to go get something from our dorm, and Ulises tries to tell me that he wants another bracelet, but he wants it made a certain way. I can't quite understand him, and I think he was getting frustrated trying to get me to understand, so we wait until

Karen comes back. He explains to her what it is that he wants, and she tells me. So after trial and error, I make it to his specifications, and tie it on his wrist.

     So Karen and I are talking, and Ulises interrupts and tells Karen (in Spanish) a story. Apparently, his LC (Latino Crew) friends went to a ranch that had really nice horses, and they begged to buy a horse with all of their valuables combined. Like their iPhones, phones, cameras,

watches, money, wallets, designer shoes. And the rancher told them that this horse was so valuable, that not even all of their items combined could even pay for one hoof, let alone the whole horse. Karen translated it for me, and we were both laughing really hard. Ulises was too. We talked pretty late into the night, and around midnight, we decided to go to sleep.
