A New Job and New People (with pictures!)

July 25th


     Yesterday I went to work. This is the beginning of eXtreme Camps, and everything is about to get a little hectic. After lunch, Zach approaches me. He asks me if I would like to work in the Java Hut, because they really need the help. I was scared and told him no. I was

scared that I would make mistakes and wouldn't learn fast...that I would be a hindrance instead of a help. Later, he asks me one more time, and this time, going against what my scared feeling were telling me, I said yes. So he introduced me to his sister, Jamie. She was the manager of

the Java Hut. She told me to be there at 4:30pm. for training. I was nervous, but I said ok. So when I finished work in the sac, I walked to the Village to the hot dome. I really didn't want to be there, but I didn't know where else to go. Desiree calls. She asks me if I would like to go to

Wal-Mart. Yes please. I met her outside in the parking lot. We went to Wal-Mart, and while I am there, Rachel S calls. We talk and I tell her all the good news, and then I hang up when I am ready to checkout, because I don't like being on the phone when I check out. I had bought

more string (imagine that!). So we arrive back on campus about ten minutes till 4:30. Only 10 minutes till I had to go train. Desiree parks by the restroom, I run up the dome, deposit my groceries, and power walk to the sac. I was about two minutes late, but Jamie didn't seem to

notice. Daniell was also there. So that was nice. Jamie just kind of pushed us in. She taught us register and drinks that day. I loved it! It was a fast paced environment...I just loved it. After the shift was over, we gather around, and a guy named Peter gives us our schedules. I am

scheduled to work every night, from 9pm-11pm, and then Saturday, from 7-9am and then 11-1pm. Jamie told Peter I did so well, that she promoted me to shift leader. After one day!! After I was dismissed, I call my mom and tell her I was promoted to shift lead. After my phone

call, I head to the dome where I meet Daniell. She and I talk while I get string ready for a bracelet that I was trying out. 9 o'clock rolls around. We walk to the sac and begin our second shift. That was a nightmare shift. We were doing food, and we got backed up for almost an hour.

People were not happy. Then Daniell, Jamie, and I sat at a table and talked till past midnight. Then today. My second day at Java Hut. I work in the sac lunch and dinner, but I keep looking at the people in the Java Hut...slightly jealous that they are in there and I'm not. My shift

wasn't till 9pm. So during the afternoon, I go to the dome and begin making a bracelet. This is the same afternoon that I meet Priscilla for the first time. She is a new volunteer, but has been coming for years. In between dinner shift and Java Hut shift, and stay in the sac and finish off

Sarah Joy's bracelet. Kaylah comes up to me and tells me she will be working in the Java Hut with me tomorrow night, then she tells me that she is in a relationship with Andrew (Thor) as of today. They are so adorable together. Then I work in the Java Hut. It wasn't too bad, because we didn't get so backed up on food. It was a pleasant evening.
