Soccer with the Interns (with pictures!)

July 30th

     Monday. Desiree wakes me up so I can eat lunch with her and so I can teach her to make some more bracelets. We arrive at the caf, and I see Karen and Ulises. They were on break and were sitting at some tables. They don't see me. Desiree and I sit down at a table next to the window

and begin making some bracelets. Ulises leaves through the back door (which is next to our table), and we make eye contact, and we both smile and wave at each other. So Desiree and I make bracelets until it is time to eat lunch. They were serving soup and tortilla chips. After lunch, we

stayed at the table. I guess Desiree got a bit bored, because she went to the Prayer Room. I had no where I needed to be, so I stay at the table and finish a bracelet for a woman named Memari. I don't know her, but I know she expressed a desire to have a bracelet. As I decide to leave the

caf and go back to my dorm, I stop right outside the kitchen and say hello to Karen and Priscilla. Karen asks me if I am going to the soccer game with the interns vs. a local high school. I told them I would like to, and that I would check with Desiree if she could drive us. I went back to

my dorm and work on some more bracelets (imagine that!). Karen and Priscilla come back and ask me if I had talked to Desiree yet, and I told them no. I was waiting for her to come back. So then Karen says she was talking with a guy in the caf whom she works with, and he asked her

some biblical question that she didn't know the answer to. She asked us, but we were all confused. So we called Priscilla's pastor, and he tried to answer it, but I think even he was confused. I think we gave up on it. Karen settles in for a nap, and Priscilla leaves to go put some laundry in

the washer. Desiree comes in a bit later and I tell her what is going on, and she is all for going to the game. The plan was to meet in the "horseshoe" at 6pm, and we would follow the bus full of interns to our destination. Desiree leaves to do I don't know what, and I stay behind so

I could go to dinner with Karen. Priscilla comes back to wake Karen up around 4:20 or so, and then leaves again to switch her laundry from washer to dryer. Karen leaves to shower, and I go and brush my teeth. We walk back to the dorm together and run into Andrew. We stop and

say hi and Karen asks if he is going to the soccer game. Andrew politely declines, and we walk back to the dorm to finish getting ready. We have been talking about our lives, the differences of our countries...she is from Mexico. We walk to the caf and eat dinner. Halfway through, I see

Memari, so I give her the bracelet. She was grateful for it. Karen goes to the restroom to apply makeup. Time is running out now. We need to find Priscilla and Desiree. So we scour the caf, and only find Desiree. She tells us that Priscilla ran back to the Village to put her laundry away

and she would meet us in the horseshoe. So we get into Desiree's car and arrive at the horseshoe shortly after 6pm. We spot Priscilla and call out to her, and she gets into the car. I look around at all of the interns going to play soccer. I know most of them. Ulises is going to play with

them. I also recognized 4 people I had worked with. This was going to be so fun!! Everyone loads up into the van, and we also let another girl ride with us because there was no room left in the van. So the van drives off, and Desiree follows. We weren't quite sure if the guy driving the van

knew where he was going, because we made many stops and u-turns. We finally arrive at the high school. The field was in the center of a running track. We sit on the running track, and watch the guys play soccer. The interns lost. 6-1. But it was such a fun night. After the game, we stop at

Sonic. We all order meals for ourselves, and then we get something for Ulises and Andrew. I also get something for Rachel L because I just happen to know she likes a certain type of drink. We load up into the car and drive to campus. We drop the girl off at her dorm, and we drive on

to the Village. I walk to the dorm and deposit some of my things and put Rachel L's drink next to her bed. I then headed over to the lounge to eat my food. Rachel L was inside, and when she saw we went to Sonic, she got a look on her face as if saying "Hey, where's mine?" I smiled and

told her it was on her bed. She was so happy. She was taken by complete surprise. Kaylah, Thor, and several of their friends were picking out a movie to watch. They decided on Percy Jackson. Halfway through the movie, Ulises came in. He had been hanging out with the other interns

and they all went out for pizza. The only available seat was next to me. I was sitting at the table because all of the couches were full. So he came and sat next to me and a few moments later he left to go take a shower. He came back and was on his phone for a bit, then he went to bed. I was pretty tired myself. It had been a good day. Long and fun.
