New Volunteers

July 29th

     Sunday. I woke up, showered, and ate junk food. I had quiet time and read my bible...I was having a really good day. I finished Kaylah's bracelets, and Priscilla came in. She had gone to church, so she was changing, and then she left. Ok then...and a bit later, this woman comes

in. I had seen her before...she was always laying in bed sleeping when we were in the domes...I hadn't actually seen her face. I heard that she went to the mall yesterday...probably why I hadn't seen her at all yesterday. Anyway, we make awkward eye contact, and I smile. She goes about her

business, getting something from one of her suitcases. She also changed. Then, as she was leaving, she told me "We are hanging out in the lounge if you want to join us...". Aww, how sweet!! I replied "Sure, I think I will." Then she left. I gathered up my courage. It really isn't

like me to go somewhere where I know no one. But I decided to go anyway. So I am walking to the lounge thinking to myself "What am I doing? I don't even know these people!" But I go forward. I open the door, and I can hear the foosball table. Then I hear Andrew. "Hey

Mikayla!" And I see Priscilla on the couch. So I sit down. Then I see the woman who invited me to come hang out, and learned that her name was Karen. And the other guy Andrew was playing with was Ulises. I'm sitting, feeling just a bit awkward, then Priscilla say that they are trying

to get a ride to Wal-Mart, and she invites me along. I said that if there was enough room, I would love to come. Karen is trying to put a phone case on her iPhone...a case that she bought yesterday at the mall. Dinnertime comes, and Ulises disappears. We were going to leave

without him, but he comes back all sweaty and says that he found us a ride. Apparently he went outside and started playing soccer with some intern who had a car. Thanks Ulises. It was really hot out. So we all go to dinner and all get to know one another. Andrew and I talk about bull

riding, Ulises introduces himself and asks for my name. He can't pronounce it correctly because he has a strong Mexican accent, but that's ok. Karen and Priscilla are like best friends. They are sitting next to each other and talking...I'm not sure about what. Then Karen gets

excited and says that she is excited to go to Wal-Mart! She was actually in the middle of texting Jorge when he comes up to us and says that he has room for three. Automatically, that meant Karen, Ulises and Priscilla. I was ok with that because I had just gone on Tuesday, and

Andrew seemed ok with it too, so they leave, and Andrew and I clean up the table and go our separate ways. I go back to the Village, and start making a bracelet for Desiree, and decided to go deliver the bracelets to Kaylah. She had a friend from out of town over, so it was a short visit.

(At the time, Kaylah was sleeping above the caf, the room I stayed in the first week.) Then I came back to the Village. A few hours later, Priscilla and Karen come in, their arms laden with stuff, and they show me what they got. Priscilla was so kind as to buy me a chocolate bar!! I asked

them if the wanted to watch a movie, and they said yes, so we all headed over to the lounge. I put the movie in, and Priscilla and I watched most of it. Karen was Skyping her boyfriend, Andrew was on the computer, and Ulises...I'm not sure what he was doing. He joined in about halfway

through though. After the movie, everyone decides to go to bed. Not me. I ask to use Priscilla's laptop, and I Skype my sister in the sac. It's ironic...I didn't even use her laptop. I used my phone. But after our video conversation, I went to bed.
